How InstantPicker Works

How InstantPicker creates random results

InstantPicker uses browser-based programming to select, arrange, or generate results from available options.

The tools are designed for games, classrooms, creative work, group activities, and ordinary everyday decisions.

Random list selection

List-based tools choose an available item from a saved list or a list entered by the visitor.

Examples include:

  • Random name pickers
  • Random word generators
  • Writing prompt generators
  • Task pickers
  • Food and activity pickers

The browser calculates a random list position and displays the corresponding item.

Results without immediate repetition

Some tools can avoid repeats until all available items have been selected.

The browser remembers which results have already appeared. When every available item has been used, the tool starts a new cycle.

This information may be stored temporarily in your browser.

Wheel spinner results

Wheel tools divide the wheel into segments based on the available options.

The tool calculates a selected segment and animates the wheel until that segment reaches the pointer.

The result shown below the wheel should match the segment selected by the pointer.

Group and team generators

Group tools shuffle the supplied names or items and distribute them across the requested number of groups.

When the number of items cannot be divided evenly, some groups may contain one additional item.

Each item should appear once in the generated result unless the original list contains duplicates.

Dice rollers

Dice tools simulate one or more dice rolls inside the browser.

Each die receives a result within the selected range. The tool may also calculate and display the total.

Coin flips

Coin tools simulate one of two possible outcomes, normally heads or tails.

They are suitable for games and informal choices, but they are not certified gambling or security tools.

Your own lists

Some tools allow you to paste your own options.

Enter one item per line. Depending on the tool, blank lines may be ignored and duplicate items may be removed.

Your list is normally processed locally inside your browser and is not intentionally stored on our server.

Recent results and browser storage

Some tools remember recent results or previously selected items using local browser storage.

This allows the tool to avoid repetition or restore a recent session.

You can normally remove this information by using a clear button or clearing the website’s browser data.

Is the randomness perfect?

InstantPicker is designed for casual and practical use.

The tools are not certified for cryptography, regulated drawings, gambling, scientific sampling, security, or other high-stakes processes.

Privacy

Avoid entering sensitive or confidential information into any picker.
